James Jim Robert Hartin passed from this earth on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at his home south of Independence, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, November 11, 2010 at the First Baptist Church in Caney, Kansas with the Pastor Doug Collins officiating. The family has suggested memorials to the Christian Cowboy Ministries and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel. Jim was born May 30, 1939 in Dallas, Texas, the son of Clayton and Hazel Underwood Hartin. His family moved to their Dairy Farm west of Krum, Texas when he was 4 years old. Jim was active in the FFA and after graduating from High School in Krum, Texas, Jim entered the United States Marine Corps, receiving the honorable expert rifleman award during his training and served the United States in Okinawa, Japan. Jim was united in marriage to Bobbie Gilliland at Gainesville, Texas on February 8, 1963. Survivors include one daughter Sherry Lynn Hartin of rural, Caney, Kansas one sister Janett Marrs of Krum, Texas two brothers Ken Hartin of Allen, Texas and Tom Hartin of Krum, Texas one beloved grandson Collin Wright of Caney, Kansas. Jim was a pilot for Arco Aviation retiring after 17 years. He owned Arrowhead Lanes in Independence for a time and was recently inducted to the South East Kansas Bowlers Hall of Fame. After selling that business he returned to his love of the land and greatly enjoyed the family haying operation and wildlife preservation. James good heartedness will be missed by all of those that knew and loved him.
