James Glasgow

Independence

James William (Jim) Glasgow, Independence, passed away on Monday, April 19th, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, April 27th, 2021 at 10:00am at the Church of the Nazarene in Independence. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 26th at Potts Chapel, 5:00-7:00pm. Burial will follow the service at the Farmington Cemetery, north of Fredonia.

James William Glasgow was born on January 7th, 1936 in Neodesha, Kansas. He was the oldest of 6 boys born to Elbridge and Georginna (Moulton) Glasgow. He attended school in Neodesha and graduated in 1955.

Following graduation James worked at various jobs. Among them was hauling furniture cross country for King Van Lines and later Frank Boyle. He later worked for Hackney and Sons as a steel saw cutter for 22 years before retiring in 2001. After retiring he spent time mowing lawns for local residents and for the Church of the Nazarene for 15 years.

In 1965, he married Caroline Rusert of Wichita. Together they had two daughters. Caroline precedes him in death. In 1986, he married Susan Elizabeth Mishler of Independence. She survives at the nursing home where they lived.

James was well thought of in the community and had many friends. You were never a stranger very long with James. He loved bowling and mowing lawns as well as serving as usher/greeter at the Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife, daughters: Pat Seitz of Independence and Shirley Parsons of Wichita. Five grandchildren: Sara Carter, Andrew James Carter, Meagan Parker, Ashley Parsons and Kimberly McClure, 2 step-grandchildren: Shelbye and Travis Seitz, 8 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers: Richard Glasgow, Steve Glasgow and Jerry Glasgow, and several nieces and nephews.
