Jim Finney, 65, of Wayside, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at his home.
Survivors blessed by his memory are his mother, Betty, of the home, brothers Wayne Finney and wife Paula of Chanute, KS, Michael Finney of Wayside, and Kurt Finney of Tyro, KS neices and nephews, as well as other relation.
Celebration of Life services will be held at the Potts Chapel Funeral Home, Caney, 11:00 am Saturday, December 6, 2014, with Pastor Terry Hatfield of First Christian Church Independence officiating. Burial will follow at the Havana Cemetery, Havana, Kansas, under the direction of the Potts Chapel Funeral Home of Caney.

James Leslie Finney was born October 10, 1949, in Independence, Kansas, the first of four children to Paul Frank Finney and Betty Atkinson Finney. Jim grew up in the Wayside area, attended schools there, and graduated high school in 1967. He attended college at Coffeyville, Kansas and Pittsburg, Kansas. Jim enlisted in the Army in 1968 and received training as a Unit Supply Specialist. He served with distinction in the Vietnam war and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Campaign Medal, as well as the National Defense Service and Army Good Conduct medals.
Upon receiving his honorable discharge from the Army, Jim attended and graduated from Pittsburg KS State University with a Bachelors degree. He was employed by, and retired from, Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
Jim was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence, Kansas. He enjoyed his time on the family farm and especially his horses.
