James F. Ferguson, 85, formally of Elk City, Kansas passed away peacefully Wednesday on May 22, 2013 in Conroe, Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 30, 2013 at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with Pastor Gary Cole of the Lone Cherry Church, Havana, Kansas officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Independence, Kansas. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. James was born June 23, 1927 in Elk City, Kansas, the son of Frank and Marie Helms Ferguson. On June 14, 1953 James was united in marriage to Evelyn Gaither and the couple made their home in Independence and Conroe, Texas. Evelyn preceded James in death in April of 1999. James lived in Independence, Kansas for many years before moving to Conroe, Texas with his wife Evelyn 14 years ago. James was known for his domino playing, his love of country dancing and his ever present smile. James will be missed by all who knew him. As an avid genealogist enthusiast he spent many hours preserving his familys unique story. James proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict era. James is survived by his loving family: Daughters, Kathie Caudle and husband, Richard and Debbie Alford and husband, Scott son, David Ferguson and wife, Mary Sister Donna Clark and husband, Jim grandchildren, Shawn, Michelle, Kimberly, Matthew, Dominic and William Great grandchildren, Tyler, Bryce, Nathaniel and Evelyn and numerous other dear relatives and friends also survive.
