James Pres Preston Corbitt Jr., age 49 of Independence, Kansas died Saturday, October 15, 2011 at the Via Christi House in Wichita, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Independence Country Club Junior Golf Program and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. James Pres Preston Corbitt Jr. was born July 20, 1962 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to James Preston and Yvonne S. Allison. Pres grew up in Independence, Kansas graduating from the Independence High School in 1979. Pres then attended Independence Community College, Kansas University and Emporia State University. In 1984 Pres went to work at the Independence Country Club as the Golf Pro. Pres then went to work as the Assistant Golf Pro at Terradyne County Club in Wichita, Kansas. Pres returned to the Independence County Club as Club Manager. Pres has been the landman at Chief Oil Gas out of Pennsylvania the past couple of years. Pres was a member of the PGA and the Independence Country Club. Survivors include one sister Carol Schopf and husband Dave of Independence, Kansas step father Ken Allison of Grand Lake, Oklahoma one nephew Sam Weinberg of Independence, Kansas, one niece Marsha Thomas of Columbia, Missouri, one great nephew and 2 great nieces.
