JAMES JIM CATLETT, 57, OF INDEPENDENCE DIED SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 18, 2010 AT HIS HOME. CREMATION HAS TAKEN PLACE AND A CELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICES WILL BE HELD ON OCTOBER 10, 2010 AT 200 PM WITH THE REVEREND BRAD SANDERS OF THE CANEY CHRISTIAN CHURCH OFFICIATING AT THE POTTS CHAPEL INDEPENDENCE. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, DONATIONS TO THE ANDREW CATLETT EDUCATION FUND IS APPRECIATED. THE FAMILY CAN BE CONTACTED OR DONATIONS WILL BE RECEIVED THROUGH POTTS CHAPEL INDEPENDENCE. JIM WAS BORN MAY 23, 1953, IN NEODESHA, KANSAS THE SON OF REX E. AND DELORES FREDERICKSEN CATLETT. JIM GRADUATED FROM THE CANEY VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN 1971 AND RECEIVED AN ASSOCIATE DEGREE FROM INDEPENDENCE COMMUNITY COLLEGE. HE ALSO ATTENDED WICHITA STATE IN WICHITA, KANSAS. IN 1990 HE MARRIED DIANE HENSON IN EUKERA,SPRINGS ARKANSAS AND THEY LATER DIVORCED. JIM WAS A FORMER DEACON OF THE CANEY CHRISTIAN CHURCH HE IS PAST PRESENDENT OF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY. JIM MANAGED THE WORKSHOP AT THE VERDIGRIS VALLEY DEVELOPMENTAL CENTER FOR SEVERAL YEARS, RAN THE BOOK NOOK IN DOWNTOWN INDEPENDENCE AND MANAGED THE INDEPENDENCE SCIENCE CENTER TILL HIS DEATH. HE RAN A SCIENCE CENTER AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM FOR SEVERAL YEARS. HE WAS ACTIVE IN GIRL SCOUTS AND HELPED SUPERVISE THE ANNUAL COOKIE SALES FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. HE WAS ALSO ACTIVE IN CUB SCOUTING AND BOY SCOUTS AS A SCOUT AND TROOP LEADER. HE COACHED AND UMPIRED TBALL, LITTLE LEAAGUE BASEBALL, MENS BASEBALL AND WOMENS SOFTBALL. SURVIVORS ARE HIS MOTHER DELORES CATLETT OF INDEPENDENCE, TWO SONS ANDREW CATLETT AND KENNETH VINEYARD OF INDEPENDENCE, ONE DAUGHTER AMY BOYER OF CHAPMAN, KANSAS, TWO BROTHERS DON CATLETT OF COLUMBIA, MO, TOM CATLETT OF RICHMOND, TEXAS, TWO GRANDCHILDREN DESTINY BOYER AND AURORA BOYER. HE WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS FATHER.
