James Bohr

James Jim A. Bohr, age 76 of Independence, Kansas died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Regal Estates in Independence, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2011 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Independence, Kansas with the Father Andrew Heiman and Steve Mahn Thapwa concelebrants. Inurnment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Cremation will follow. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Andrew School Foundation and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. James Jim A. Bohr was born February 7, 1935 in Groom, Texas to Raphael J. and Anna G. Hermesmeyer Bohr. Jim grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School in 1954. In 1956 Jim married Rebecca Howard and the couple later divorced. Jim worked for Electra, Sheldon Grain, and Coca Cola before going to work for Universal Atlas Cement in 1966. Jim retired from Universal Atlas Cement in 1996. On August 20, 1994 Jim married Carol McHenry in Independence, Kansas where the couple made their home. Jim was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife Carol of the home seven sons William J. Bohr, Gregory E. Bohr, Stephen G. Bohr, Philip D. Bohr all of Independence, Kansas, Chester Metcalf of Texas, Mark Metcalf of Independence, and David Metcalf of Texas four daughters Gina M. Whitley of Independence, Kansas, Margaret A. Matlock of Chanute, Kansas, Susan Soliday of Indiana, and Jennifer Wittenberg of Texas one brother Nicolas Bohr of Independence one sister Lucy Lucas of Nebraska 26 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
