Jack D. Lewis (lovingly known as “Apple Jack”), 89, of Caney, Kansas, passed away from this world in peace surrounded by his family on May 25, 2024, in Independence, Kansas. He will be sorely missed and forever in our hearts. He was a great role model, mentor, loving best buddy, and a significant father figure that impacted many lives.
Jack was born on September 27, 1935, to Cecil L. Lewis and Dorthy C. (Peltz) Lewis in Ash Grove, Missouri. He loved his country and joined the United States Army. During his military service, Jack served in the Korean War. After serving his term, he was honorably discharged.
He had a deep passion for the outdoors and was always working on the family farm. Jack was a devoted family man and was always there for anyone in need. He loved his Dr. Pepper and hot cocoa. One of his favorite past times was to sit outside in the garage by the radio while smoking a cigarette and swatting flies with a fly swatter.
Jack is preceded in death by his mother Dorthy Lewis and father Cecil Lewis; his sister Geneva Lee, and daughter Jackey Lyn.
He is survived by his daughter Mary Ann, his sister Betty J., his nieces Tiffany Waller and Amanda Coffey, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and many more nieces and nephews.
Cremation is under the care of Potts Chapel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. An inurnment will take place at the Ash Grove Cemetery in Ash Grove, Missouri.
