Iva Simmons

Iva E. Simmons, 87, of Independence, Kansas passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Potts Chapel . Visitation will be Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family receiving guest from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Cheryl Brewster and left with the Chapel. Iva was born November 15, 1927 in Thayer, Kansas to David Isaac and Myrtle Irene (Ballard) Lindsay she attended Thayer Kansas Schools. On January 19, 1956 she married Dennis Simmons the couple made their home in Independence, Kansas where Iva was employed as a caretaker. Iva was a member of the Church of God where she was called to be evangelist, traveled all over to win souls for the Lord she enjoyed it so much she worked until she was 80 years old.
Preceded in death by her parents, and husband, and one son Robert House. Survivors include three sons Larry House, Claremore, OK; adopted son Jim House Independence, KS; Wallace "Pete" Simmons, Independence, KS; three daughters, Linda Houck, Owasso, OK; Glenda Smedley, Thayer, KS; Cheryl Bailey, Melissa, TX; Iva also raised her granddaughter Krisdenie Matadi of Owasso, OK; 18 grandchildren, 31 great, 3 great great. 6 siblings deceased, 3 living. Claimed many other children and grandchildren as her own. The oldest of her siblings. Took on being Mom and grandma to anyone. Never missed sending birthday wishes or cards to all her children or grandkids. Opened her home to many. She was dearly loved by many. She lived a great long life and will be cherished by all who knew her. Arrangments by Potts Chapel of Independence.
