Helen Lucile Wiles of Independence, Kansas passed away December the 21st in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 30th at 1:00pm at Potts Chapel. Memorial remembrances are suggested to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and Saint Jude, and may be left at the funeral home.
Helen L. Wiles was born September 25th, 1928, in Neodesha, Kansas. She was the daughter of Ira H. and Hazel M. (Garriott) Wilson. She graduated from Benedict High School in Benedict, Kansas.
On May 17th, 1946, in Yates Center, Kansas, Helen married the love of her life Willie L. Wiles. They went on to own and operate “Wiles Truck Line” located in Augusta, Kansas. The two moved to Independence, Kansas in 1973 and became the owners and operators of Arrowhead Lanes Bowling Alley until 1993. They later owned Wiles Appliance Center from 1995 to 1997.
Helen was a member of the Grace Memorial Methodist Church, the Women’s Bowling Association; where she served as President, then manager for several years. She is a proud lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. Helen was a woman of many talents and hobbies including dancing, knitting, reading, playing cards, and of course bowling.
Surviving Helen is her son, Jimmy Wiles of Neodesha; three Daughters: Melody Watson and husband David of Independence, Lori Juby and husband Jay of Coweta Oklahoma, and Deanne Lower and husband Steve of Independence. Grandchildren include Jimmy Wiles Jr, Angela Wiles, Harmony Kimzey Hines, Jeff Hines, Derek Kimzey, Nick Juby, Matt Juby, and Jordan Watson, and four great grandchildren Trey Kimzey, Preslee Irwin, Kamryn Irwin, and Evan Wiles.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 59 years, one son Norman Wiles, and two sisters, Betty Vaughn and Donna Owens.
