Helen Louise Vining was born in Harper, Kansas, to Harvey and Gladys McCrady Hunt on Dec.7, 1924. She graduated from Wann High School and Bartlesville Business College. She worked at Phillips Petroleum, Sinclair Pipeline and was coowner with her husband, Donald Vining, in Vining Marine, Vining Electric and Vining Rentals. She was one of seven children, which comprised her brothers, Harvey Hunt, Tulsa,Oklahoma, Everett Hunt, San Antonio, Texas, now deceased, Harry Hunt, Broken Arrow,Oklahoma, and Bill Hunt, Tulsa, Oklahoma, now deceased, and sisters Frances Resnick, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, now deceased, and Sandra Dukes, Derby, Kansas.
Her husband, Donald Vining, preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Carol Peters, Fort Worth, Texas, Steve Vining, Nashville, Tennessee, Cathy Vining and Mary Vining,both of Independence, Kansas, and her grandchildren, Christopher Vining, Nashville, Tennessee, Grant Peters, Manhattan, Kansas, and Tracy Peters, Fort Worth, Texas, Madison Vining, Independence, Kansas, and Anna Rasmussen, Memphis, Tennessee.
Helen was an active member of the community. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, Independence Historical Museum and the Ostomy Society. She was a member of the Independents Investment Club and two Pinochle clubs for many years. Helen attended the Grace Memorial United Methodist Church where she was an active member.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Independence Historical Museum, American Cancer Society, Ostomy Society and Grace Memorial United Methodist Church. Helen loved and appreciated other special people in her life: her brotherinlaws, sisterinlaws, soninlaw Bruce Peters, daughterinlaw Betsy Garber Vining, Bill Bertie and all of her nieces and nephews in the Vining and Hunt families.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Grace Memorial United Methodist Church with the Pastor Frank Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence.
Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014 with the family receiving friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
