Helen Louise Burton, age 76, of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, October 27, 2011 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Ginny Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Gas Cemetery in Gas City, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2011 and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family may be contacted at 712 W. Maple in Independence, Kansas 67301. Helen Louise Brown was born January 23, 1935 in Iola, Kansas to Arthur Dean and Goldie Leora Vest Mangus. She grew up in Iola, Kansas and graduated from the Iola High School. Helen has lived in Independence, Kansas since 1980. She worked at several different restaurants in Independence, Kansas as a cook. She also worked at Dana Corporation formally ACC where she retired. Survivors include one daughter Leora and husband Fred Cox of Independence, Kansas step mother Nora Casey Mangus of Independence, Kansas one brother Art and wife Wanda Mangus of Bay Town, Texas Sister Deloris Wilson of Coffeyville, Kansas 2 Grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
