Hazel Vensel

Hazel Marguerite Vensel, age 82, of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, October 6, 2010 at her home in Independence, Kansas.

Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2016 with the family receiving friends at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

The family has suggested memorials to the American Legion Post #139 and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Hazel was born October 10, 1933 in Belpre, Ohio to Curtis and Mattie (Groves) Vensel. She grew up in Belpre, Ohio and Parkersburg, West Virginia. Hazel entered the Women's Army Corp in June of 1952 until her honorable discharge in December of 1953. She worked at the Ammunition Plant for five years in Independence, Kansas before retiring from Emerson Electric after 22 years. She was a member of the American Legion for over 20 years. Hazel loved drawing, fishing, fixing clocks, photography, bird watching, traveling, Kansas City Chiefs, baseball and playing the guitar.

Survivors include one brother Tom Vensel of Little Hocking, Ohio; nephews and nieces and many great nephews, nieces and friends; and her companion Pee Wee.
