Harold Wayne Cole, 80, of Independence, Kansas passed away Monday September 30, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Independence, Kansas.
A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday October 4, 2013 at the First Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend David Henneke Officiating.
Burial will follow With Military Honors in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel Independence, Kansas.
Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday October 3, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
The family has suggested memorials to the First Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
Harold was born August 28, 1933 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Harold M. and Bertha N. Williams Cole.
He grew up in Emporia, Kansas attending and graduating from the Emporia School system. He then attended Emporia State University graduating in 1957 with a degree in Business.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korea era aboard the USS Prairie and was Honorable Discharged in 1953 with the rank of Sk3.
On May 29, 1955 Harold was united in marriage to Dorothy Mishler and the couple made their home in Independence, Kansas, Dorothy survives at the home.
Harold enjoyed camping, boating and traveling. He was a member of the KanOkLiners camping club and the First Baptist Church in Independence, Kansas.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of the home one son Terry Cole and wife Sheila of Wichita, Ks., two daughters Shelly Gunby and husband John of Woodland, Calif., Deborah Kronk and husband Lloyd of Wichita, Ks., one sister Colleen Glenn of Carrolton, Tx., three grandchildren Melissa and Brandon Gunby and Aaron Kronk.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold M. and Bertha N. Cole.
