Harold Gene Bruington, 90, of Joplin, Missouri passed away on December 24th, 2020. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 31st, 2020 at 11:00am at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Visitation will take place prior to the service at Potts Chapel from 10:00-11:00am. Friends may sign the book Monday thru Wednesday at Potts Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Jeff Bruington Technology Center, in care of Zion Lutheran School, 301 S. 11th Street, Independence, Kansas 67301.
Harold was born on June 28th, 1930 in Independence, Kansas. He was raised and graduated high school in 1948 from Independence. Harold served in the army during the Korean War from 1952-1954.
He married Arlene Jabben Bruington on August 8th, 1953. They had two sons, Brent and Jeffrey. He was employed by Cities Service/William’s Company. Retiring in 1986 after 32 years. His career took him from Kansas to Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Canada. He assisted in building of the Helex Plant in Ulysses, Kansas and the Syncrude Plant in Fort McMurray, Canada.
Harold became a self-taught master woodworker. His results are enjoyed by family and friends as well as the Immanuel Lutheran School and Church. He enjoyed playing golf, traveling and visiting various places throughout the United States.
Harold’s faith was very important in his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. He will be greatly missed.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents Percy and Ida Bruington, brothers: Edwin, Marvin, twin brother Gerald, Glenn and son Jeffrey.
He is survived by his wife Arlene, son Brent and wife Lana, grandchildren: Eric and wife Abbie, Jeremy Bruington and Jessica Cartrite, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
