Glen Carl Jackson, 80, passed away while being surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas. At the request of the family, cremation has taken place under the direction of Potts Chapel.
Glen Carl Jackson was born on September 10, 1937 to Glen Andrew and Eva Pearl (Ross) Jackson in Independence, Kansas. In 1954, at the age of 17, Glen entered the United States Navy. While stationed in California, he met Shirlee Stradley. The two married on November 17, 1957 in Carson City, Nevada. In 1958, Glen was honorably discharged from the Navy and he and Shirlee made their home in California until 1973 when they moved to Independence, Kansas. Through the years, Glen and Shirlee welcomed 4 children. The two were later divorced. Glen worked in the water department for the City of Independence for 20 years. Glen was a lifetime member of the VFW, a Boy Scout leader, and a Master Mason. Glen loved to dicker with others, trying to get the best deal possible, he wasn't happy until he at least got a free pen or t-shirt out of the deal. Glen enjoyed auto racing, watching wrestling, Royals baseball games, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family will remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Glen is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Eva (Ross) Jackson, daughter, Debra Diane Jackson, brother, Albert Jackson, sisters, Loretta Cole, and Velma Jackson.
Those left to carry on Glen's memory, ex-wife, Shirlee Jackson of Independence, son, Russell Jackson of Independence, Glenda and husband Eldon Ellis of Cherryvale, Christy and husband Larry Swanson of Bartlesville, brother, Paul Jackson, sisters, Francis Mavers, Retha Carter, Shirley Erwin, Carolyn Lockhart, and Thelma Wilson, 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A celebration of Glen's life will be held at the First Church of The Nazarene in Independence on Saturday, August 11th at 11:00 am, officiated by Russell Jackson. A memorial contribution may be left in Glen's name to the First Church of The Nazarene. Online codependences may be made by visiting www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
