Geraldine Long

Geraldine E. Long, formerly of Cherryvale passed away January 31, 2023, in Overbrook Kansas. Geraldine was born October 3, 1926 to Obediah and Sarah Cole in Cherryvale. She attended school in Cherryvale graduating High School in 1944. Geraldine attended Pittsburg State University earning her degree in education. On February 16, 1946 she married the love of her life, Harry Long. The two made their home on their farm in rural Cherryvale. Geraldine welcomed and raised three children Stephen, Pam, and Joyce. Though these were her children she was a mother figure to many of the area children.

Geraldine loved living on the farm and being outside. She was an active member with 4H Happy Hustlers, as well as the Happy Homemakers. Those who knew her always knew she loved the time with her grandkids and family. Organization was a key factor for Geraldine as she always had what you were looking for and knew exactly where it was.

Kansas State University became a large part in her life. As all of her children attended college there. Geraldine and her husband were season ticket holders, which the family still has today. She enjoyed attending KSU football and basketball games.

Geraldine is preceded in death by her husband Harry, and her parents Obediah “Obe” and Sarah Cole. Those left to carry on her memory include her son, Stephen Long and daughters Joyce Goethals and Pam Dodson, 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023 starting at 2:00 PM with the family receiving visitors from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale. Funeral Service will be on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Independence with burial to follow at Pleasant Dale Cemetery, Rural Cherryvale.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial be made in honor of Geraldine to Zion Lutheran School in Independence. Memorials may be left at the Chapel.
