Geraldine Geri M. George, age 84, of Independence, Kansas died Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the St. Francis Via Christi Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Unit in Wichita, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the ST. Andrews Catholic Church with Reverends Father Daniel Vacca and Father Gene Grabner officiating. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 30, 2009 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Visitation hours will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 25, 2009, Friday, November 27, 2009 and Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Andrew School Foundation and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Geraldine Geri M. George was born October 23, 1925 in Jamestown, ND. to Kenneth and Martha Good Jones. She grew up in Lawrence and Ottawa, Kansas and graduated from the Ottawa High School in 1943. On December 12, 1947 Geri married Lloyd W. George in Wichita, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 7, 1974. Geri worked at Boeing-Wichita during World War II. Employed by the City of Wichita and Catholic Social Service in Wichita, prior to moving to Independence, Kansas in 1965. Geri was employed by Sinclair Pipeline Company in 1968, retiring in 1991 as administrative assistant to the President of ARCO Pipe Line Company, Independence. Geri was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church, St. Andrews Altar Society, St. Andrews Foundation Board, Independence Community Concert Association board and membership secretary, Mercy Health Systems of Kansas trustee 1996-2002, Mercy Hospital Foundation Board 1992-1998 and president from 1997-1998, Mercy Hospital Lay Board 1989-1995, Mercy Associates, Soroptimist of Independence charter member and past president, Independence Action Partnership board secretary, Sinclair-Arco Retirees Association, including the Pipe Line Memorial in the Park, FORPAZ board 1989-1995, Mini-golf course brick project co-chair, Inge Festival advisory board, working on the Gala for several years, Chamber of Commerce board and committees, including the Labeling Stuffing Society, Mercy Auxillary, Parish and regional levels of CYO, for 25 years. Geri loved the city of Independence Survivors include one son Michael and wife Jayne of George of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Jason and wife Lori George of Wichita, Kansas, Chris and Corbin George both of Wichita, Kansas; two great grandchildren Jordan and Lanie George both of Wichtia, Kansas; one sister Billie Strange of Long Beach California. She was preceded in death by parents, one sister Pat Jones in 1988, brother Dudley Jones in 1997 and brother Kenneth Jones in 2007
