Gerald L. Stevens, age 66, of Los Angeles, California formerly of Cherryvale, Kansas died Saturday, April 11, 2009 at the Saint Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2009 at the Cherryvale United Methodist Church with the Reverend Russell Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the American Diabetes Foundation and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Gerald was born April 18, 1942 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Orville and Bertha Deckard Stevens. He grew up in Cherryvale, Kansas and graduated from the Cherryvale High School in 1960. Gerald then attended and received his bachelors degree from Pittsburg State University and his masters degree in Library Science at Emporia State University. Gerald retired from the Los Angeles County Library System. After retirement he worked as an independent travel writer. He was a member of the USO and worked at the Bob Hope USO International Airport. Gerald loved to travel and was a member of the Cherryvale United Methodist Church. Survivors include his life partner Andrew Lei of Los Angeles, California; two sisters Marilyn Carter of Scottsdale, Arizona and Dee Donaldson of Lake Elkins, Texas; two brothers Carlton Stevens of Scottsdale, Arizona and Richard Stevens of Kansas City, Missouri.
