Georgia Jessie Vance, age 85 of Independence, Kansas died Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Steve Butler of the Community Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday May 3, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Community Christian Church Building Fund and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Georgia was born May 18, 1924 in Chanute, Kansas to George and Jessie Carter Ross. She grew up in the New Albany, Kansas area and attended schools in New Albany, Kansas. On October 28, 1944 Georgia married Noah Frederick Vance in Nowata, Oklahoma the couple made their home in Independence, Kansas and later in Mound Valley, Kansas. Noah preceded her in death. Georgia worked at Continental Can in Coffeyville, Kansas and then for Lees Manufacturing in Cherryvale, Kansas until retirement in 1966. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Community Christian Church in Independence, Kansas. Survivors include one daughter Bess Louise Vance Clark of Independence, Kansas one son John Wesley Vance of Independence, Kansas two step sons Noah Vance Jr. of Dell City, Oklahoma and Jackie Vance of Independence, Kansas one brother Jim Ross of Liberty, Kansas six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many great great grandchildren.
