Georgia Mae Ray, age 89 of Independence, Kansas died Sunday April 25, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the First Baptist Church North Campus with the Reverend Jim Blocher and Pastor Wayne Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to FORPAZ and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Georgia was born October 8, 1920 in Jay, Oklahoma to Harry and Maude Wogoman Cook. She grew up and attended school in Peoria, Oklahoma. In 1937 Georgia married Vernon R. Cooper and the couple divorced. In 1962 she married Gerald Ray and the couple were later divorced. Georgia worked at FRAM, Continental Can, Corner Drug Store and the Independence High School Cafeteria. She was a member of the First Baptist Church North Campus, 60 club, AARP, Democratic Club and volunteered for Meals of Wheels. Survivors include one son Raymond Cooper Cabot, Arkansas two daughters Donna Milner of Rose Hill, Kansas and Genny Heisler of Independence, Kansas one brother Paul Cook of Estacada, Oregon 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son Roy Cooper, grandson Kenny Cooper, and sister Gertrude Thompson.
