George Williams

George Robert Williams, Independence, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2020. A private family Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 10:00am. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00-7:00pm at Potts Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the St. Andrew’s Catholic School and can be left with Potts Chapel.

George was born on November 15, 1921 in his family home, east of Sycamore, Kansas. He was the son of George M. Williams and Florence Myrtle (Hudiburg) Williams.

He married the love of his life, Treva M. (Mavers) on January 21, 1943 in Independence, Kansas. George entered the U.S Army in 1943, serving under General George S. Patton’s Third Army Engineers until the end of World War II.

George worked at various places until he went to work for Banker’s Life in the 1950’s. In 1967 he began working for the U.S Government of Agriculture until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, he pursued his passion of mowing lawns. In 1993 he went to work for Four County Mental Health until his second retirement in 2015.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 15 brothers and sisters, beloved wife Treva, infant son George R. Williams Jr. and daughter Karen M. (Williams) Terry.

Those left to cherish his memory are his son Stephen G. Williams and wife Cindy, daughter Patricia A. Williams, seven grandsons, two granddaughters, 19 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granddaughters.
