GENE LAVERNE PATTERSON Gene Laverne Patterson, age 83, of Caney, Kansas died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at the Caney Nursing Center in Caney, Kansas. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 9, 2009 with the Chaplain Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Gene was born June 11, 1926 in Wichita, Kansas to William Charles and Hazel Irene Hayes Patterson. He grew up in Wichita and attended schools in the Wichita School System. Gene was a musician he played guitar and sang, he was a member of the band Gypsy Gene and the Nashville Ramblers, he was very well known in the Nashville Tennessee area. He also helped with other Nashville celebrities. He worked with movie producers in California. On September 7, 1980 Gene married Alena Cook in Miami, Oklahoma; the couple traveled around with Gene's music career before moving to Caney, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Alena Patterson of Caney, Kansas; one sister Deloris Price of St. Augustine, Florida; four brothers Jack Patterson of Topeka, Kansas, Duane Patterson of Wichita, Kansas, Dennis Patterson of Arizona and Larry Patterson of Nashville, Tennessee.
