Gary Shearhart

January 30, 1946 — March 2, 2015

Gary L. Shearhart, age 69, life-long resident of rural Wayside, KS, passed away peacefully at his home Monday 3/2/15. He was born January 30, 1946, at Independence, KS, the fourth of four children born to Elmer and Mildred (Davis) Shearhart. He attended Wayside public school. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Marylee Hall on March 23, 1963, at Dearing, KS, in the home of the late Reverend Joe Brown.
Gary attended church during his youth at Sunnyside school, northwest of Wayside, and in later years the First Church of God in Dewey, OK.
Gary worked for Layton Oil Co and B&N Drilling Co, both of Independence, KS.
In 1965 he became self employed, joining partnership with his brother-in-law E. Ray Hall in the oil well servicing business under the name H&S Well Service, Dewey, OK.
In 1970, RAYGARY Oil Co was started north of Wayside. Gary also had partnerships with Triangle Petroleum, Independence, and ER&C Oil Co, Wayside. He also did contract pumping, worked as a dozer operator, and raised cattle with his brother Ed.
Gary loved the outdoors, whether it be working or just enjoying life. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, boating, and traveling, but his favorite outdoor activity was golf. But more than all of these, he relished spending time being with family and friends, helping others, and specifically spoiling his grandchildren.
His fighting spirit to face each day with grace, courage, and hope showed true spirit and soul. To be near him and to know him you were most certainly blessed. His kind personality, integrity, big smile, whistling and the goodness in his heart he had for his family and friends will truly be missed.
Survivors blessed by his memories are his wife Marylee of the home, son, Trevis Shearhart of Cherryvale, KS, grandson Spencer Shearhart of Independence, granddaughter Kelsey Shearhart of Havana, KS, sister Wilma Davidson of Havana, two brothers - Elmer Dale Shearhart of Sequin, WA, and Ed Shearhart of Goddard, KS; four nieces - Cheryl Burris of Havana, Carol McDaniel of Dewey, Linda Montgomery of Anchorage, AK, and Mary Ellen Thygerson of Lynden, WA; four nephews - Larry Davidson of Caney, KS, Jerry Davidson of Coffeyville, KS, John Davidson of Fordland, MO, and Eddie Shearhart of Goddard; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents - Mildred Shearhart in 1984, and Elmer Dale Shearhart in 1990.
