Gary Lee Johnson, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on November 7, 2023, at the age of 71. He was born on March 15, 1952, in Independence, Kansas, to Matthew and Zelottie Johnson.

Gary will be remembered for his unwavering love and devotion to his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and made sure to create lasting memories. His family meant everything to him, and he always prioritized their happiness above all else.

Having attended school for auto body repair, Gary possessed an immense passion for working on cars. He was a skilled craftsman who could bring life back into any vehicle that crossed his path.

Beyond his automotive talents, Gary was also known for his love of the outdoors. He took great pleasure in fishing and hunting trips, and gardening where he could unwind and appreciate the tranquility of nature. Furthermore, he honed his grilling skills and delighted friends and family with mouthwatering barbecues that brought everyone together.

Gary’s love for baseball started at a very young age.  He played throughout his life locally and for a national baseball league.

Golfing was another one of Gary's favorite pastimes. He enjoyed challenging himself on the golf course while relishing the company of friends and family who shared his enthusiasm for the sport. Whether he scored a hole-in-one or simply enjoyed the sunshine, golfing provided him with immense joy.

Gary was also a talented musician who loved playing his guitar. He enjoyed playing his guitar with his dad, brother Donald, and friends. One of his favorite songs to play was Soul Serenade.

One could often find Gary seated beneath the shade tree in his backyard—a spot that became synonymous with relaxation and reflection. It was here that he would unwind after a long day's work or spend time engaging in conversation with loved ones. The shade tree became an emblem of solace and tranquility throughout Gary's life.

Prior to his passing, Gary had proudly served in the United States Army. His dedication to his country demonstrated his remarkable sense of duty and commitment to something greater than himself. His military service instilled in him valuable qualities such as discipline and resilience, which he carried with him throughout his life.

Gary will be dearly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and perseverance that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of sharing his journey.
