Fuller McClain Cretcher 90, passed away Monday October 31, 2022.
Born May 19, 1932, to Paul and Mabel (Mustaine) Cretcher in Columbus, Oh. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Audrey, Doris, Don, Joe, and Larry. Preceding him in death was also his first wife of (41) years, Josephine V. Johnston, who passed in June of 1996.
Fuller spent most of his school years in North Lewisburg, Ohio. He worked for NCR in Dayton, Ohio before joining the Air Force in 1952. He served four years as a Staff Sargent both state side and in North Africa, last with the 322nd Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Air Defense Command. He returned to NCR after serving. He graduated from the University of Dayton, OH., with an Associates in Technology, Specializing in Electrical Technology in 1963, ranking in the upper 3rd of his class. Then, Logic Design and Digital Computers in 1967.
He gained employment with Emerson Electric in Independence, Ks. in 1976, which is how he came to the Southeast Kansas area. He bought his Cherryvale, Ks. farm in 1980, where he resided until his death. He retired from Emerson Electric in December of 1995. After retiring from Emerson, he joined Four County Health Services for several years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Independence, Ks., and the Farm Bureau.
On October 23, 1955, he married Josephine V Johnston. They have three children Carolyn Fecke of Neodesha, Ks., Lois Offerman of Greenville, Tx. and Nancy Taylor (Ken) of Carl Junction, Mo.
On September 14, 2002, he was joined in marriage to Dorothy Mattes of Independence, Ks. The union brought him two stepsons Larry Mattes (Hollie) and Richard Mattes (Mickie), both of Independence, Ks.
The girls gave him ten grandchildren. Bill Fecke (Kimber Anne), James Fecke (Makota), Kenneth Fecke (Alexis), Cynthia Glenn, Robert Fecke (Kristin) and Johnny Dieudonne. Ian Offerman, Cassie Offerman. Geoffrey Hanna (Stacie), Matthew Hanna (Kim). The boys brought him an additional seven. Johnathan Mattes, Joshua Mattes, Samantha Manley (Walt), Stephanie Mattes. Adeline Mattes, Gerald Mattes.
The blend gifted many great grandchildren (27). Kara, Josh, Brian, Stephen, Ringo, Sakura, Thomas, Eli, Lacie, Kenny, Audri, Willa, Kenzi, Drake, Nash, Olivia, Blakelee, Blair, Britin, Gage, Durk, Jase, Camden, Gage, Sadie, Lincoln, Michael. Numerous nieces and nephews.
This man will be missed.
Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence on Monday, November 7th with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will take place at Potts Chapel in Independence on Tuesday, November 8th at 10:00 am. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society on behalf of Fuller.
