Frances Mavers

Frances Lorene Mavers, 89, of Independence, Kansas passed away at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Thursday, July 15, 2021.

Frances was born on September 19, 1931, to Glen A. and Eva P. Jackson in Independence, Kansas. Frances attended and graduated from Independence High School. On April 9, 1950, Frances married Merle Dean Mavers in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Once returning to Independence, Frances joined St. Andrew Catholic Church and her and Merle renewed their vows at St. Andrew Catholic Church on April 9, 1952. Through the years, Frances worked as an elevator operator at the Professional Building and helped run the family farm. Frances and Merle were married 62 years before his passing in 2012. Frances was a member of the Lady’s VFW Auxiliary, PTA for the Dearing Schools, Altar Society, and 4-H Leader. Frances loved to do puzzles, complete her coloring books, and drive tractors.

She is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Eva Jackson, husband, Merle Mavers, brothers, Albert, and Carl Jackson, sisters, Velma Jackson, and Loretta Cole.

Her memory will live on with her son, Dan and wife Lois Mavers of Independence, daughters, Cheryl Penrod of Coffeyville, and Deana and husband Opie Combs of Independence, brother, Paul Jackson of Wichita, sisters, Shirley Erwin of Wichita, Retha Carter of Altoona, Carolyn Lockhart of Oklahoma City, and Thelma Wilson of Wichita, six grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at Potts Chapel at 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 22nd, with the family greeting friends from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Andrew Catholic Church on Friday, July 23rd at 1:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in Frances’ name to the St. Andrew Catholic School.
