Floyd E. Hamilton, 74, of Cherryvale passed away at 9:30 P.M. Monday, October 4, 2010 at his home. Celebration of Life service will be held 2 P.M, Friday, October 8, 2010 at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale with Pastor Michael Longfellow and Pastor Brian Harris, officiating. Friends may register from 9A.M. until 5 P.M. Thursday and from 9 A.M. until service time at Potts Chapel of Cherryvale. Interment will be held at Pratt Cemetery east of Independence with military honors provided by McConnell AFB Honor Guard. The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society and they may be left at the funeral home or mailed to P.O. Box 801 Independence, Kansas. Floyd Eugene Hamilton was born July 31, 1936 at Earlton, Kansas the son of William Floyd Hamilton and Mildred Splain Hamilton. He grew up in Earlton and Chanute and attended school in both towns. After his schooling he was in the Air Force serving total active service for 20 years and 18 days attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. On January 17, 1956 at Iola, Kansas he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Tremain. She preceded him in death September 18, 2004. After serving in the military and living in many states he retired to live in Aurora, Colorado where he worked for Weaver Construction for 28 years. He and Shirley moved to Cherryvale in 2002. Survivors include: one son, James Hamilton of Cherryvale, Kansas, two daughters, Katherine Welch of Clovis, New Mexico, Brenda Locke of Cherryvale, Kansas, two brothers, Larry Hamilton of Hemett, California, Ronnie Hamilton of Chanute, Kansas, one sister, Daisy Jones of Platte City, Missouri, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
