Florine Flo Elizabeth Jewett, age 89, of Cherryvale, KS passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 16, 2014 at the Cherryvale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale with Pastor Bill Booe officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Potts Chapel in Cherryvale.
Visitation hours will be held from 12 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18 with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale.
The family has suggested memorials to the Alzheimers Association. Contributions may be left at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale.
Florine was born April 14, 1924 to Lester Andrew and Frances Estella Wilson Pennington of Cherryvale. She attended Cunningham Country School and Cherryvale High School.
Florine married Melvin G. Jewett on Dec. 24, 1941 at Newkirk, OK, before Melvin served in the United States Coast Guard. After Melvin returned from the service in 1945, they enjoyed their life on the farm. Melvin preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1993.
Flo worked at Carinders Hatchery, Electra and ACC. She retired from ACC in April 1994 after 27 years. She was a member of the Cherryvale Christian Church and the Eastern Star. In the 1950s she belonged to the Centennial Cheerful Helpers Quilting Club. In the 1960s she bowled on a morning bowling league.
Survivors include one son David Jewett and wife Dianthia of Cherryvale one daughter Linda Brown and husband Garland of Neodesha, KS granddaughters, Davia Knight and husband Chad of Cherryvale and DeeAnne Tigner and husband Bill of Neodesha three great grandsons, Jackson Knight, Briggham Knight and Harrison David Knight, all of Cherryvale and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, step mother, Ethel Pennington, sister, Mary Bateman, step brothers, Reid and Allen Thomas, and great grandson, Hudson Tigner.
