Beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Fay Marie Mitchell passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at her home in Independence.
Fay was welcomed into the world on September 30, 1942 to Frank B. and Laura E. (Jacobsen) Collier in Richmond, California. Fay attended John Swett High school in Crockett California. On March 11, 1961, she married Joe E. Mitchell at Lake Tahoe California. The two were married 46 years before his passing in 2007. Through the years Fay and Joe welcomed five children Laura, Wayne, Haley, James, and Sandy. While living in California Fay worked for both MV and later for Laidlaw, transporting the disabled to day centers. She also volunteered at the homeless ministry.
After retirement Fay joined her eldest daughter and family in Kansas. She became a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Independence. Later serving for 3 years as a Deaconess. Fay looked forward to her weekly lunch meetings and Bible studies with friends. She had the deepest love for her family and would attend every choir concert, band performance, and any school function. One of her favorite pastimes was drinking coffee while watching the cows. Fay also had a love for her cats Molly and “Little girl”.
Fay is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Laura Collier, husband Joe E. Mitchell, and sister Evelyn Ansaldo. Followed in death by her daughter Haley Stansbury.
Her memory will carry on with her sons, Wayne and wife Janice Mitchell of Australia, James Mitchell of Vallejo, California. Daughters Laura Mitchell of Independence, Ks, and Sandy Arendtson of Klamath Falls, Or. 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 Great great grandchildren on the way. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Potts Chapel and a Celebration of Fay’s Life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Independence on Friday, Febuary 9, 2024 at 10:00 am.
