Eva Esther Banks passed away peacefully Friday night March 22, 2019, after a battle with cancer.
Eva was born October 7, 1930 in Osage, KS the daughter of Howard and Matilda (Briggs) Banks. Eva was married to Roland Wood in Andalusia, Alabama and widowed years ago.
Eva grew up on a small farm during the Great Depression, where she milked cows, raised chickens and did the numerous chores that come with farm life. She graduated from high school in 1948, and lived in Nebraska, Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, and Arkansas, until coming to Independence, Kansas. Here with her father owned Banks Pawn Shop for more than 40 years, then after its sale, worked at Walmart for several years.
Eva is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by one brother, five sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her engaging smile and being a friend in all she met
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at 1:00pm at Potts Chapel in Independence with Chaplain Keith Springer with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice officiating. Interment will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends are invited to sign the register and greet the family on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Chapel.
