Eugene Hollis Musgrove was born April 21, 1951 in Independence, KS. He is the second child of Cleona Marilla (Reynolds) and Hollis Mont Musgrove. He graduated from Independence High School in 1969 and later completed his Bachelor of Accounting degree at Pittsburg State College in 1973. After college graduation he married Linda Ann Vail and they lived in Wichita, KS. They were married 51 years and had two children Cameron and Grant. Early in his career he developed a passion for saving his clients money on their taxes. He moved to Tulsa, OK to pursue a CPA license then later opened his own private practice. While his children were young he declined relocation opportunities to stay in the Tulsa area to keep his family close together. Eventually he relocated two more times over his career, though he spent the longest time in Broken Arrow, OK. And his heart remained in Independence, KS with his parents and sister. In addition to family visits, Eugene regularly traveled back to Independence for the family reunion.
Later, his company transferred him and his family to Houston where he eventually found an opportunity in San Antonio with USAA that would bring him close to his youngest son, Grant - 1000ft away to be precise! In San Antonio, Eugene created a marvelous outdoor living space that wrapped around the entire house, complete with an outdoor firepit. Eugene retired in San Antonio to enjoy time with his friends, family, and focus on genealogy - his lifelong hobby. After Grant and his family moved to Waxahachie, TX, Eugene and Linda soon followed. This time only 100ft away!
Eugene loved to travel and see the American West. This desire was fostered by his mother, who would take the whole family on road trips across the country. He was very interested in history, particularly the Wild West and stories of gunfighters and lawmen like Wyatt Earp. Year after year, he took his family on long camping road trips across the west. His family continues to cherish the memories of those trips: the beautiful places they discovered, the history they learned, and even the problems they faced together.
Eugene spent most of his personal time improving the house, researching his genealogy, woodworking, fishing, camping, spending time with grandkids, and digitizing family photos and media that dated back over 100 years. He would make customized birthday and holiday cards for his kids and grandkids. He took good care of his mother and sister, recently caring for his sister in the hospital and facilitating her move to Tulsa for medical treatments. Eugene was diagnosed with an aggressive stomach cancer in June and passed away peacefully on July 19, 2024.
Eugene is survived by his wife, Linda; sister Linda Diana Musgrove; son Cameron Musgrove and wife Maryellen of Bixby, OK; son Grant Musgrove and wife Julie of Waxahachie, TX; six grandchildren Holly, Jack, Gavin, Jaxon, Keith, and Jolene.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents.
