Esther Elma Henderson Scott, of Independence, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital after a short illness. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday at Potts Chapel in Independence. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 8pm Wednesday at Potts Chapel in Independence with family receiving visitors from 6pm to 7pm. Memorials are suggested to AWOL. Mrs. Scott was born July 1, 1917 in Garnett, Kansas the daughter of Boyd and Altha Doll Henderson. She married Maurice Lee Scott on November 22, 1934 in Ottawa Kansas. They moved to Independence in 1953. Mr. Scott preceded her in death. Mrs. Scott was a member of the Highland Park Baptist Church. Esther loved the outdoors, taking daily walks and working in the yard. She was an avid gardener and loved growing many plants and flowers. She and Lee loved to go to the senior dances in and around Independence. She had worked at Buckles Meat Processing Plant, Electra Manufacturing, and was a home maker. A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives. This embodies Esthers life and the affect she will continue to have on the world. Mrs. Scott is survived by her son, Don Scott and wife Joan of Independence, grandchildren, Rusty Scott of Independence, Nancy Scott of Lawrence, KS, Twila Augustine and husband Rodney of Independence, Mark Jones and wife Jennifer of Olathe, KS, Jeff Jones and wife Julie of Plano, TX., Brother Wayne Henderson of Liberty Lake, WA, and sister, Lavern Howarter of Garnett, KS. Great grandchildren include Brent, Brittany, and Joshua Jones, Jordan and Jensen Jones, and Scott, Cooper and Morgan Augustine. Mrs. Scott is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lee Scott, daughter Sondra Jones, brothers Leonard Henderson, Orin Henderson, and sisters, Clara Warbritton, Florence Osborn, Floye Costly and Mary Smith.
