Esther Ottilie Lange, age 101, of Independence, Kansas died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the Windsor Place in Independence, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ron Oldenettel officiating. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Esther O. Lange was born February 28, 1908 in Sylvan Grove, Kansas to Oswald Theodore and Agness Johanna Jacob Ruehling. She grew up in Sylvan Grove, Kansas coming to Independence, in 1927. She married Louis B. Lange, in Sylvan Grove, Kansas on August 17, 1930. He preceded her in death in 2000. The Langes owned and operated Langes Dairy, two miles west of Independence. Mrs. Lange was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a charted member of the Dorcas Society, was active in the Ladies Aid Society, Lutheran Womens Missionary League, and Senior Adult Ministry. Surviving are three daughters, Bernice Ringeisen, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sylvia Akin, Overland Park, Kansas, and Alice Linn, Independence, Kansas, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Esther was the last surviving member of her family.
