Elvira Ortega

Elvira Ortega, 85, of Independence, KS passed away Tuesday at her home surrounded by her loving family. Cremation has taken place and Celebration of Life Services officiated by Rev. Dick Drumeller at Crystalbrook Church in Independence will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at the Potts Chapel Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 7:00 pm. with Father Stephen Mahn Thapwa officiating. Mrs. Ortega was born on November 8, 1925 in Benedict, KS, the daughter of Julio and Maria Cortez. She grew up and attended school in Morehead, KS. She married Everett Ogle in 1946 and moved to Cherryvale, KS. He preceded her in death in 1971. She married Jesse Ortega in 1978 and they resided in Independence. She is survived by nine children and their spouses. Richard Audrey Ortega, Marsha Humphries, and Dale Ogle of Independence, Kansas. Steve Claudia Ortega and David Gail Ortega of Topeka, Kansas. Allen Marsha Ogle of Parsons, Kansas. Donnie Jeanie Ogle of Omaha, Nebraska. John Ortega of Manassas, Virginia. Steve Judy Ballew of Cherryvale, Kansas . She had 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 3 greatgreat grandchildren. She worked for VallisWngroff Printing in Cherryvale and retired after working over 20 yrs. She was a long time member of St. Anns Quilting Circle and loved to garden. Memorials are suggested for Hannahs House, a battered womens shelter affiliated with Crystalbrook Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas
