Elvin Davenport

Elvin Mike L. Davenport, 84, of rural Cherryvale, Kansas passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at his home. Cremation has taken place and services will be held at a later date in Chillicothe, Missouri under the direction of Potts Chapel of Independence, Kansas. Memorial remembrances are suggested to AWOL Humane Society and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to P.O. Box 801, Independence, Kansas. Elvin Lyle Davenport was born February 23, 1927 at Hale, Missouri the son of Erle Davenport and Alva Wheelbarger Davenport. He grew up in the Chillicothe, Missouri area and graduated from Avalon High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served 23 years retiring in October 1967 attaining the rank of E7. On March 7, 1957 at Butler, Missouri he was united in marriage to Eva Shirlene Jackson and they later divorced in 1962. He moved to rural Cherryvale fifteen years ago from Chillicothe to be close to family. Survivors include his ex wife and companion Eva Shirlene Hudson of the home, two daughters, Lori Randy Bryant of Independence, Kansas, Lynn Monty Crain of Raymore, Missouri, one step son, Mark Hudson of Hedrick, Oklahoma, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
