Ellen Gaffney

Ellen Jane (Franklin) Gaffney passed away Friday, December 1, 2017 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A celebration of life service will be held, Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Berean Christian Mission Center. Visitation will be Friday, December 8th from 12:00-7:00pm, with family greeting friends from 5:00-7:00pm at Potts Chapel in Independence.
Ellen was born on January 18, 1945 in Independence, Kansas. She was the beloved daughter of Morris and Eva Mae (Pearson) Franklin. She was raised in Independence. Ellen attended Coffeyville Community College, Pittsburgh State University and K-State. She married James Gaffney Jr. on January 21, 1961. They made their home in Coffeyville. Ellen and James raised their family in Coffeyville, Humboldt, and Chanute. She moved back to Independence after the passing of her husband in April 1999.
She worked for the Head Start program for 43 years. During this time she was the CDA Coordinator. Later she was the Presbyterian Preschool Director. Ellen had many hobbies. She enjoyed traveling and dancing, most of all she loved spending time with her family. Ellen was an active member of the Berean Christian Mission Center Church until her death.
Those loved ones left to cherish her memory are her sons; James Marion Gaffney III and Steven Eugene Gaffney, brothers; Sylvester Franklin, James Franklin and Maurice Franklin, sisters; Margaret Conger and Jeanette Headley, six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Proceeding Ellen in death were her parents, husband, brothers; William Harrison Franklin, Marion Franklin and Thomas Franklin, and sister Doris Bell.
