Ellen Eda Boyd, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, in Independence, Kansas, at the age of 88. Born on January 5, 1937, in Salina, Kansas, Ellen was a source of unwavering love and kindness, cherished by all who had the privilege to know her.
A proud high school graduate, Ellen dedicated her life to her family and her community. Over the past fifteen years, while she may have limited her outings, her warm spirit remained ever-present. Even within the walls of the nursing home for four and half years, Ellen cultivated meaningful relationships with both staff and residents alike. She was known for her genuine interest in others, engaging them in conversations that often felt like heartfelt inquisitions. Friends and caregivers frequently shared stories of how special and loved she made them feel.
Ellen's love extended far beyond her immediate family. Together with her late husband, Allen Boyd, they spent 65 beautiful years together and became second grandparents to two remarkable young girls, Jesse and Cheyanne, who held a special place in their hearts. Ellen's love for these young girls continued throughout her life, and they remained an important part of her journey.
Ellen found joy in simple pleasures; she was an avid shopper on QVC, always anticipating the latest specials and sharing her excitement with her daughter. Her interests, combined with her loving nature, created a legacy of affection and warmth that will not soon be forgotten.
She is survived by her son, Ricki Boyd; daughter, Vicki Hufford; son-in-law, Scott Hufford; grandson, Evan Hufford (Elida Stinson); granddaughter, Lisa Hufford (Jeremy Lewis); her great-grandchildren Violet Hufford, Lincoln Hufford, Reid Hufford, and Declan Lewis; as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Ellen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Allen; her son, Lonnie Boyd; her parents, Carl Pasternak and Georgina Freeby; her brother, Carl Pasternak; her sisters, Patty Johns and Susan Miller; and her nieces Jaeneen Miller and Christy Pennington.
Ellen Eda Boyd's life was marked by her loving spirit, and she leaves behind a legacy of generosity and connection. She will forever be remembered by her family and friends as a shining light in their lives.
Services will be held at Medicalodges in Independence, Kansas, Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 10:15am.
