Elda Anna Katherine Mansfield, age 86 of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at the Regal Estates in Independence, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Ron Oldenettel officiating. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2009 with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church, Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Alzheimers Association and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel. Elda was born June 6, 1923 in Independence, Kansas to Henry A. and Anna M. Olthoff Harms. She attended the Maple Grove Grade School and Independence High School. On September 22, 1942 Elda married Francis A. Mansfield in Independence, Kansas. Elda worked in Housekeeping for several Hotel Motels in Wichita, Kansas. She was a homemaker and the couple owned and operated a Laundry Mat in Afton, Oklahoma before moving back to Independence, Kansas. Francis preceded her in death in December 28, 1987. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church , American Legion Auxillary, Wichita Garden Club, local AARP and the Women of Zion. Survivors include her daughter Blendina M. Miller of Independence, Kansas; one sister Helen R. Reynolds of Independence, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons and one brother.
