Edward Lee Johnson, age 68 of Caney, Kansas died Friday, December 23, 2011 at the Jane Phillps Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas with Dennis Ernest officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Caney Valley High School Booster Club and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Edward Lee Johnson was born March 19, 1943 in Coffeyville, Kansas, the son of George Edward and Evelyn E. Batson Johnson. He graduated from Caney High School in 1961. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Company, Bartlesville, Oklahoma and most recently KOPCO in Caney, Kansas. He was the owner of Caney Valley Speedway where three generations of family took the checkered flag on the oval dirt track. He was also Fire Chief in Caney, Kansas for several years. Edward was a member of the United Methodist Church of Caney. On November 23, 1963 he married Phyllis A. Kannard and she survies at the home. Additional survivors include two daughters Kristi A. Magee and husband Randy and Kimberly D. Johnson both of Caney, Kansas five grandchildren Tyler, Jacob, Krystal, Stefanie Rebekah all of Caney Brother David Randy Johnson and wife Marilyn of Maumell, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kerri Lynn of November 23, 1982 and his parents.
