Edith Almina Laughlin, 93, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, January 15, 2017 at 10:00am at Potts Chapel of Independence, KS. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 14th from 2:00 - 3:00pm. A private family burial will follow. Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Brethren and can be left with the funeral home.
Edith was born in Caney, KS on May 15, 1924 to E.P "Pat" and Caroline (Carinder) Hinman. She was raised in Rural Caney and attending school in Caney. She married Joe Main and together they had six children. Later she married Austin Laughlin on October 26, 1974. They resided in Tulsa, OK. After Austin retired in 1982, they moved back to Independence. During her earlier time in Kansas, she worked as a cook at Wiggs Restaurant and for ACC.
She had many hobbies that included quilting, crocheting, embroidery, shopping and watching the "Golden Girls. But most of all she loved her family and was over joyed being a grandmother. Edith was also a lifetime member at the Church of the Brethren.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: Wilbert Hinman, Milford Hinman and Jim Hinman and one sister: Francis Scott and a daughter Melba Ann Main.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son Denzel (Fayrean Lewman) Main, daughters: Carolyn Main, Christine (Jim) Hare, Charlotte (Michael) Scott and Pam (Larry) McHugh, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
