Edith Christine Hayes, age 68, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Fairview Cemetery in Cherryvale, Kansas with the Reverend Jeff Owen officiating under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, December 27, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Edith was born November 18, 1942 in Ochelata, Oklahoma to John David and Thelma Cornelius Hayes. She grew up in Oklahoma before moving to Kansas. Edith was a waitress at Suvets Italian restaurant in Wichita, Kansas. She also owned and operated her own upholstery business. Survivors include four sons Samuel Peugh of Cherryvale, Kansas, William Peugh of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Tim Peugh of Wichita, Kansas and Virgil Peugh Rebecca Mills of Tonganoxie, Kansas one daughter Sharon Peugh of Wichita, Kansas two sisters Mary Grotts of Centerville, Arkansas and Margaret Lewis of Topeka, Kansas 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren She was preceded in death by one son David, 4 brothers Bill, Benny, John and Gene 3 sisters Arlene, Ruth, and Velma.
