Eddie Matthews

Eddie Wayne Matthews, 63, of Independence, KS passed away Monday, March 6th, 2017 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Cremation has taken place per request of the family.
A celebration of life service will be 10:00am on Friday, March 10th, 2017 at Potts Chapel in Independence, KS.
Eddie Wayne Matthews was born May 6th, 1953 in San Diego CA, the son of Edward Leroy and Janie (Gann) Baker. Eddie attended school in San Diego, CA. He graduated in 1971 from high school then attended San Diego City College where he got an Associate Degree in carpentry and later went back to obtain his general contractor's license. On July 11th, 1993 Eddie was united in marriage to Elaine Marie Stroble in Las Vegas, NV. In 1996, they made their home in Independence, KS where Eddie worked as a carpenter for Crossland Construction and then later for himself.
Eddie loved camping, boating, and drinking beer; he also loved to go 4 wheeling, shooting guns, and spending time with his friends, but most of all he loved spending time with his loving family and being at the lake.
Eddie is survived by his wife Elaine of the home, son Kevin Matthews, and daughter Amanda and her fiancé Ryan Augustine, all of Independence KS, his mother Janie Lou (Gann) Baker of San Diego, CA, and three Grandchildren, Addison Paige, Makayla Shay, and Rayun Lee, all of Independence KS.
Eddie is preceded in death by his father and one brother, Steven Baker. Memorials can be made in Eddie's name to the Friends of Elk City Lake and can be left at Potts Chapel of Independence, KS. Online condolences can be left to the family by going to www.pottsfuneralhome.com .
