Earl D. Huffman, age 85, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at the Medical Lodge in Independence, Kansas.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, December 9, 2013 at the New Hope Christian Church with the Pastor Gerald Zuck officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas.

Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Sunday, December 8, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorials to the New Hope Christian Church or the Harden Hospice and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas.

Earl was born August 10, 1928 in Wellington, Kansas to Ancil and Charity Alice Henderson Huffman. He grew up in Wellington, Kansas and attended schools in Wellington.

On June 5, 1949 Earl married Virginia Lee Ivie at the Church of Christ in Wellington, Kansas. The couple made their home in Wichita, Kansas before moving to Yates Center, Kansas and in 1980 to Cherryvale, Kansas. Earl served in the United States Army and retired from the National Guard after 21 years of Service. He worked for KGE for 37 years as a lineman retiring in 1985. Earl was a member of the New Hope Christian Church and the Masonic Lodge where he served as past president and Chaplain. Earl made fishing rods and lures and also repaired fishing rods.

Survivors include his wife Virginia of the home one son Keith Huffman of Carthage, Missouri two daughters Julie Kiister and husband Ron of Cherryvale, Kansas and Patricia Trish Lewis and husband Mike of Independence, Kansas six grandchildren Rob Huffman, Cody Kiister, Kyle Kiister, Brook Pearish, Emma Lewis and Cami Lewis and three great grandsons. Earl was preceded in death by two brothers Oscar and Roy Huffman and eight sisters Iva Dixon, Edith Dixon, Letha Adams, Mary Huffman, Velma Rayle, Alberdine Willhite, Margerie Sims and Ora Cottle.
