Duwayne A. Dortch, 57, of Independence, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A celebration of life service will be Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:00am at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation will be 10:00am till service time. Duwayne Andrew Dortch was born August 23, 1958 in Kansas City, Kansas. He was the son of Norvette and Izola (James) Dortch of Wichita, Kansas. Duwayne graduated Independence High School in 1977. He has lived in Independence since 1959. Duwayne was united in marriage to Kathy Coltharp on May 30, 1987 and made their home in Independence. He worked for Standard Motors for 27 years and also worked as a security guard until his health failed. Duwayne loved watching drag racing, working on cars and racing slot cars. Most of all, he loved spending time with his loving family. He was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and AARP. Duwayne is survived by his wife, two daughters; Stacey Stuart (Scott) of Chanute, KS and Tina Coltharp of Independence, KS, one son Dan Griggs of Ark City, KS, two brothers; Darrell Dortch of Collinsville, OK and Jim Dortch of Kansas City, KS, four grandchildren; Christina Evans, Shane Stuart, Amber Nichols and Brandon Griggs, and one great-granddaughter Leigha Ann Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Larry Dortch. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or to the St. Andrew Knights of Columbus.
