Dorothy Stair

Dorothy C. Stair, age 95 of Independence, Kansas died Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the Gansel House in Independence, Kansas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2016 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel.

Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 6, 2016 with the family receiving friends after the Rosary. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

The family has suggested memorials to the FORPAZ for Flowers around Fountain and contributions can be left at the Potts Chapel.

Dorothy Catherine Stair was born January 19, 1921 in Liberty, Kansas to Charlie and Nora (Altendorf) Schicke. She grew up in the Liberty, Independence area and graduated from the Independence High School in 1939. Dorothy worked for Halsey Prairie Pipeline Company and at a department store in Independence, Kansas.

On February 19, 1945 Dorothy married Glenn Stair in Independence, Kansas where they made their home. Dorothy owned and operated the original Stairs Market on south tenth street. Glenn preceded her in death in 1997. Dorothy was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church and loved to raise flowers and garden.

Survivors include three sons Walter and wife Leslie Stair of Independence, William "Bill" Stair of Independence and Richard and wife Paula Stair of Hoyt, Kansas; five grandchildren Gary Stair preceded Dorothy in death, David Stair, Cobey and wife Krista Stair, Jakki and husband Michael Diaz, and Jammi and husband Justin Chesser; ten great grandchildren Corey Stair, Jesse Stair, Andrew Stair, Mikala Stair, Paige Stair, Lanie Stair, Kaleb Stair, Noah Diaz, Aron Diaz and Everitt Chesser; six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandchild, one brother and two sisters.
