Dorothy Ann (Hamlin) Jackson, 85 passed away at her home in Elk City, Kansas on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
Dorothy was born on November 26, 1935 in Independence, Kansas to Francis and Sadie (McNeal) Hamlin. She grew up on the family farm south of Independence and graduated from Independence High School in 1953. On September of 1958, Dorothy married Needham Jackson in Oklahoma. They later divorced in 1988 and Dorothy moved to Elk City making her home. Dorothy was a member of the Bolton Friend Church for over 50 years. Being raised a farm girl, it was not unusual to see Dorothy out doing chores on the farm each and every day. She loved tending to the cattle, goats and other livestock. She loved animals, volunteering her time at AWOL and the VFW Auxiliary and giving her advice to other farmers who called her needing help. Dorothy will be truly missed by all that knew her.
She is preceded in death by parents, Francis and Sadie Hamlin, and brothers, Bill, Melvin and Henry Hamlin.
Survivors include son, Jeremy (Melissa) Jackson of Bartlesville, OK, daughters, Dawana (Fran) Cemer of Kissee Mills, MO, Diana (Roger) Perry of Branson, MO, Tammy Jackson of Elk City, KS, and Tracy Jackson of Independence, KS, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. A private family graveside will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contribution can be made in Dorothy’s name to AWOL of Independence or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
