Dorothy Irene Ford, age 92 of Independence, Kansas died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Windsor Place in Independence, Kansas. Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Glen Van Dyne officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at a later date. Dorothy was born January 18, 1917 in Montgomery County, Kansas to Harry R. and Florence B. Kennedy Van Dyne. She grew up in Montgomery County, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School in 1933. Dorothy graduated from the Olson Business College in Independence, Kansas. She worked for Banks, OBrien and McVey Law Firm for about 10 years before moving to Idaho and then to Colorado. On April 3, 1958 Dorothy married Loyd B. Ford in Denver, Colorado where the couple made their home. They also lived in Missouri and Texas before moving to the Independence area. Dorothy was a member of the Business Professional Womens Club. Survivors include three brothers Wayne Van Dyne of rural Independence, Kansas, John Van Dyne of Independence, Kansas and Glen Van Dyne of Gig Harbor, Washington; five sisters Hester Van Dyne of Independence, Kansas, Frances Whitehorn of Gig Harbor, Washington, Thelma Canaday of Topeka, Kansas, Helen Norcross of Independence, Kansas and June Brannum of Pella, Iowa; and numerour nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
