Doris C. Wilson, age 84 of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at her home in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2013 with the family receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com. The family has suggested memorials to the First Church of the Nazarene and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Doris was born May 18, 1927 in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Martin and Glenna Ashley Lesslie. She grew up in rural Independence and attended the Independence School System. On September 17, 1948 she was united in marriage to John N. Wilson and made their home in Independence. John preceded Doris in death on September 26, 2012. Doris worked at Gibsons Discount Store, and then many years at Sayers Ace Hardware. She was an excellent seamstress and often did custom sewing and alterations for people in the area. She was a wonderful cook and loved sharing with friends and neighbors especially noted for her pies and noodles. A crafty lady, she loved creating for her grandchildren. A very compassionate caregiver to anyone in need. Doris was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene for over 50 years. Survivors include a son John M. Wilson and wife Chris of Coffeyville, Kansas daughter Karen Rankin of Havana Lake 4 grandchildren John Wilson Jr. and wife Jolene, Sandy Heidelberg and husband John, and Carie Wlson all of Coffeyville, Kansas and Mandy Voss and husband Gordon of Aztec, New Mexico five great grandchildren three brothers Wilbur Lesslie and wife Jean, Sycamore, Kansas, Larry Lesslie of Carbondale, Kansas and Mike Lesslie and wife Sharon of Olathe, Kansas two sisters Charlotte Winebrenner and husband Richard, of Independence, Kansas and Linda Deyoe and husband George of Havana, Kansas. Doris was a kind and gentle soul and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
