Doris F. Walter, 81, of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday, January 29th at Montgomery Place Nursing Home.
Family and friends gathering will be from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Potts Chapel. Family members will be available throughout the day at Potts Chapel.
The Family has suggested memorials to the Independence community College Scholarship Fund and contributions may be left the Potts Chapel in Independence.
Doris was born April 17, 1932 in North Kansas City, MO to Matthew Foster and Maude McMillian Foster. She grew up in Riverside, MO, attending Riverside schools. She graduated High School in 1950. She attended George Washington University in Washington, DC where she received her bachelors degree in Journalism. She worked as a Paige at the White House during and after her college years. She continued to be politically involved through 1978.
Doris married Charles Kenneth Walter on August 3, 1957 and the couple made their home in Benton, MO. Charles preceded her in death on October 16, 1984. Doris worked as the Media Director at ICC and retired in 1994. She was involved with the William Inge Festival until her retirement. She enjoyed home restoration, antiques, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include: four sons, Charles Kenneth Walter Jr. and wife Patricia Warner Thomas Walter and wife Sharon Eric Robert Walter and wife Donna Jeffery Matthew Walter and wife Susan one daughter, Lisa Gayle Schuler, 9 grandchildren and 10 greatgrandchildren.
